snowy beginnings to february

it was looking nice in the afternoon...honest, then it rained, then later it snowed
Today we had the pre- fore casted snow, it began with a smattering at the weekend. We are not used
to snow down in Castelnau. At this time of the year we are used to snow in the mountains, especially in February it a very popular time for skiers.

around the village
I think the last time we saw the countryside covered in snow like this has to have been about five years ago maybe six and we actually drove down in February...nuts, it was a very slippery last few hours.
Somebody silly, yes it was sunny yesterday afternoon, then it rained, left the washing on the line. It looked quite funny this morning the pyjamas hung with snow along with at least four to five inches on the ground overnight. Anyway once i had got over it, i got excited and ran off with my camera sans Milou around the village.

When i got back around midday from my camera run the sun was out and although very cold the snow was beginning to thaw including the washing. I had showed Milou the back door at least three times and she was uninterested unless i was coming out to, which really was not an option given that i was back in my slippers. However shown the front door half an hour later she could not wait, bounding in the snow, shuffling it with her nose. Milou has seen the snow once as a ten month old pup and she was neither moved or impressed, this time out she loved it. Marc and i went for a snowy walk down to the tennis courts, past the stables up a country lane, a fourty five minute circuit in all.

Funnier still, I do not recall any of our previous cats having a love affair with snow?! Porthos particularly and Darcie loved it. The sun was warm in the afternoon, warm enough to dry the washing out. Meanwhile Porthos and Darcie were having fun. I swear Darcie even made a snowball at one point, and  Porthos was dashing up and down the garden  pouncing on bits of fresh untouched snow.

....playing in the snow
The light, winter sun, was extraordinary in the afternoon, it lit the entire snowy landscape. Tonight it is cold and set like this for the next ten days, dramatically dropping in temperature after seven pm.

winter sun!
